The HÖHN COLLECTION consists of wooden sculptures and paintings. Most of the works of art in the collection were systematically collected in the 1980s according to their cultural and historical significance for the history of Balinese art, with great emphasis on a high artistic level and precise craftsmanship. Many of the pieces came from private owners. All the works in this unique and exclusive collection are well documented and, together with the portraits of the artists, corresponding literary quotations and portraits of the artists, constitute an extensive documentation of art history.

Very rare cultural asset of Balinese history!
This sculpture was bought 1920 on Bali and must have been produced long time before,
a comparison of his style with other figures supports this dating.
This sculpture was most probably in a palace that burned down in 1908/1909 and was therefore sold,
Fire marks support this conclusion.

Nyuhkuning

From the End of the 30s of the 20th century the small village of Nyuhkuning became a centre for wood carving.
Some of the sculptures presented here were shown as the last works of the artists
at the opening of the sculpture museum in Nyuhkuning in 1985.
Only 20 years later the museum was abandoned and from the 90`s there were
hardly any individual sculptures carved in the village.
The sculptures from the museum were returned to the artists.
